On June 8th, Archaeology West Jutland invites you to a Detector Event: Introduction to DIME

DIME stands for 'Digital Metal Detector Finds' and is a digital platform for registering archaeological finds, most often made with a metal detector. The DIME database was developed in 2016-2018 by a group of museum professionals and university archaeologists in close collaboration with detector users and a broad panel of professionals from museums across the country and currently contains more than 175,000 finds from all over the country. DIME is available as a mobile app and is simple and free to use for the finder, local museum and the National Museum of Denmark.

The evening's program will consist of two presentations followed by an opportunity for questions and debate.

The first presentation will be by Associate Professor Andres 'Minos' Dobat, who is a project manager at DIME. He will talk about detector archaeology as a phenomenon and what DIME can be used for.

The second presentation of the evening will be by Poul Hounsvad, an archaeology student and experienced detector user. He will talk about the use of DIME in the field.

The event is aimed at both new and old users or those who still need convincing - in short, all detector users.

The evening is free for everyone, but registration is required and must be made to museum curator Michelle Staffe at ms@arkvest.dk no later than June 6.
