Where good people are, good people come. - This must almost be the case with the nature district Ringkøbing K, but a new area, it can't really be called that...
When archaeologists carried out a preliminary investigation at the nature district near Ringkøbing, it turned out that people have lived here for thousands of years. The archaeologists found the remains of several Stone Age houses, Bronze Age houses and Iron Age houses. And then they found something strange!
At the edge of the area they were to excavate, there was a circle. The circle was the remains of a so-called 'woodhenge', the equivalent of the English Stonehenge. As with Stonehenge, we can only guess what Bronze Age people might have used their woodhenge for - worship of gods, sun worship, astronomy?
However, we do know that the 'woodhegnen' measured 30 meters in diameter, with about two meters between each of the oak posts, about 30 cm thick, that rose high in the landscape. At the top, the posts may have been connected by transverse posts. This is therefore a striking structure that could be seen from far and wide - both from Ringkøbing Fjord and from the land.
Everyone is welcome to go for a walk in the large and beautiful nature area of Naturbydelen.
