Crossing water has always been associated with danger. That is why generation after generation has told how to cross the water safely - also at Skjern Å. Archaeologists believe that over the centuries people crossed the river Skjern in five places. One of them is near Borris, and the remains of the crossing point can still be seen today.
The ferry site in Borris has been mentioned since the 17th century. It was here that the old main road between Skjern and Kolding crossed the river.
Next to the ferry site there is still a very well preserved ford, which was replaced by a bridge in the mid-1800s along with the ferry
