Hoverdal Plantation was planted in the late 1800s. There are jogging and hiking trails, shelter sites and campsites. There are also good opportunities to find mushrooms in the area.
Already in ancient times people lived in this area, their burial mounds still tell their story. However, the shifting sands in the area have for many years made life difficult for the area's inhabitants. It was only when Austrian pine was planted in 1882 that the sand was brought under control. In 1891, the state bought the heath farm Store Hoverdal and the associated land. The planting of the new Hoverdal Plantation was to begin.
The new plantation helped to keep the sand under control and attracted both animals and new plants. Today, it has become the very varied nature area of Hoverdal Plantation.
