Where does the expedition go?
On this page you can find inspiration for where you can go to explore different types of nature in West Jutland. Of course, you can also go on an expedition on your own and find your own exciting destinations.
Discover the forests of West Jutland
West Jutland was once covered in forest, but over time our ancestors cut it down. The West Jutland forests we know today were all established as plantations to prevent the sand from blowing across the country. Fortunately, they hide a lot of exciting experiences and exciting nature. Have a great expedition!
Discover the meadows of West Jutland
The oaks occur along streams and rivers where the soil is moist. It is a unique habitat where plants and animals have to adapt to the wet soil. In the past, the meadows have been difficult to access as it was not possible to cross them dry-shod. Fortunately, today we have made it easier to explore the wet West Jutland. Happy expedition!
Skjern meadow and river
ENGE
Go on an expedition in Northern Europe's largest nature restoration project. The re-cut Skjern River with its vast meadows offers a wealth of experiences. Cross the river in one of the wooden ferries that inspired Naturkraft's wooden ferries. The meadows are also ideal for cycling, hiking, kayaking and even horses are welcome.

Experience the moors of West Jutland
Since our ancestors thousands of years ago cut down the primeval forest for firewood and construction and left the land impoverished, the heath has slowly, step by step, taken over the landscape of West Jutland. The heath is therefore what we now call a cultural landscape, as it is man-made. But even though the heathland soil is nutrient-poor, biodiversity is rich, as animals and plants have adapted to the heath. So there's plenty to discover on the heaths of West Jutland. Have a great expedition!
The dune heath at Lyngvig Fyr
HEAT
The dune heath is low and even. Due to the strong wind at the coast, which breaks tall heather shoots and causes a lot of salt, the vegetation is denser on the dune heaths than on the heaths found inland in Central and West Jutland. Take your basket with you to pick blueberries and currants - and if you're lucky, you might spot a sunbathing viper.

Discover the dunes along the West Coast
A characteristic sight of the North Sea is the high dunes that shield the mainland from the sea. Dunes consist of hills of sand and are formed by the wind. The sand is blown inland by the wind and only stops when something gets in the way. It could be a plant, uneven sand or perhaps drifting debris. Here, the sand collects in a heap that gets bigger and bigger over time, and the foundation for a dune is created. Happy expedition!
The dunes at Lyngvig Fyr
STRIPES
The dunes at Lyngvig Fyr form a hilly terrain, and on the highest dune, at 15 meters, Lyngvig Fyr towers majestically over the landscape. The dune landscape at the lighthouse also offers a nature playground, indoor and outdoor picnic areas and a nature adventure for children.
