The Circle of Friends invites you to a Valdemar meeting

June 15 at 14:00 - June 15 at 17:00

On June 15, 1219, the Dannebrog is said to have fallen from the sky. On this occasion, the Friends of Kaj Munks Præstegård are once again holding a Valdemar meeting in the beautiful garden at the vicarage.

It's red, it's white, it's mine, it's yours!

In 1942, Kaj Munk wrote about the Dannebrog: "It is red, it is white, it is mine, it is yours, and it lives in battle with the fierce wind." The wind is a natural part of West Jutland, and of Kaj Munk's home in Vedersø. But two years before Kaj Munk wrote about Dannebrog, another wind came to Denmark, a wind that brought dark clouds over the nation and meant that the vicarage in Vedersø did not fly the flag from April 9, 1940. In fact, the flag was not used again until January 1944, when Kaj Munk's coffin was wrapped in the Dannebrog. A few days earlier, the poet priest and resistance fighter had been killed for what he believed in - his country, nation and flag!

Kaj Munk celebrated the flag every year on Valdemarsdag, where he invited people to a party at the vicarage - and Dannebrog was celebrated. But what is a flag and can it be worth fighting for? What is Dannebrog? Is it more than just a symbol? Is it more than decoration? And is it worth celebrating so many years after it fell in Estonia? For Kaj Munk, Dannebrog was part of Denmark - and worth fighting for, even if he ultimately paid the ultimate price!
