Ringkøbing Fjord Museums celebrates Danish Mill Day on June 15!

At Bundsbæk Mølle and Skjern Vindmølle , our volunteer millers organize milling days.

Watermills, windmills, stamp mills, stump mills, tread mills... A mill is not just a mill, and on Sunday, June 15, you can experience several of them and learn more about the exciting and 1000-year history of mills. Ringkøbing Fjord Museums mark the day at both Bundsbæk Mølle and Skjern Vindmølle.

Bundsbæk Mølle

Bundsbæk Mølle is West Jutland's oldest working watermill, and on Mill Day, the museum's volunteer mill guild is ready to tell you about the mill's history while the watermill creaks and grinds flour. Of course, you can also sit in the cozy mill rooms and enjoy a cup of coffee. You can also take a walk past the mill pond and further out into the beautiful Bundsbæk Nature Park.

Skjern Vindmølle

Using wind energy is nothing new in Denmark; in fact, wind energy has been used since the Middle Ages. After years of careful renovation, Skjern Vindmølle can once again grind flour. A handful of local volunteers have been trained in the intricate art of windmills and are looking forward to showing off the beautiful Dutch mill and - wind willing - demonstrating how it grinds grain.

Danish Moth Day

Danish Windmill Day is a national holiday when many of the country's water and windmills are open. It is not only Denmark that celebrates Mothers' Day, several other European countries also celebrate Mothers' Day at this time. The Danish Windmillers' Association is behind this national day.
