Join this year's harvest at Bundsbæk Mølle

At Bundsbæk Mølle you can lend a hand when Ringkøbing Fjord Museum's harvesting guild starts the season's harvest. They wield the scythe as they did 100 years ago in July.

In 1999, Ringkøbing Fjord Museums re-established Møllerens Eng at Bundsbæk Mølle, and every year the meadow is harvested by hand by volunteers from the museum's harvest guild. Come and see how to make the best hay, and if you need a little exercise, you are welcome to lend a hand, or maybe learn how to swing the scythe - you don't have to mow but cut, and it requires a little hissing from time to time. If you're interested in finding out more or perhaps joining the guild, just ask for information. It's completely free!

Haymaking - tough but vital
Haymaking was once an important part of rural life, and for many people, the meadow was one of the most valuable natural areas. But as we all know, the meadow is a cultural landscape that requires meticulous care, and it's hard work when it's done by hand. The nature around Bundsbæk Mølle is rich in rare plants - this is partly due to the fact that the grass is mowed with a scythe and staked by hand. The haymaking and grazing of the meadows by cattle creates a greater diversity in nature. The volunteers in the haymaking guild keep the old farming craft alive by mowing with a scythe, sharpening eggs and stacking the grass on riders so it can dry properly.

Check the calendar to see when haymaking is taking place.
