Rakkerstien

The area around Bundsbæk Mølle, tells the story of the rascals. At Bundsbæk Mølle , poor relief was once handed out to the rakes, among others. Already in the Middle Ages, being a rakker emerged as a profession and it was, among other things, the rakker who had to help the executioner, emptied outhouses and removed dead animals. For these reasons, the rest of society looked down on the rabble, they were dishonest, unclean and disgusting! They were someone you didn't want to touch, they were someone you walked in a big circle around. Being a rascal went from being a profession to being a concept - something you were, something that a whole family was. The Raks were ostracized and for this reason created a parallel society where they had their own rules, ways of life and language.

Discover the life of the rakkers and enjoy the beautiful nature in Bjørnemosen while walking the rakker trail. Rakkerstien takes you through the area where the last rakkers in West Jutland lived and down to the rakker house, which is a reconstruction built right where the original rakker house stood.
