Svanitta Gerhardine.
The Dutch ship is traveling on the west coast. The year is 1852. The autumn wind is blowing gale force from the west. The Dutch ship is heavily loaded with old iron, which pushes the ship deeper. The violent waves make it difficult for the crew to steer the course.
Early in the morning of October 4, Svanitta Gerhardine is stranded at Årgab. It is discovered immediately and the rescue team rushes to the scene with a rocket launcher and a lifeboat. With a rocket, they quickly shoot a line out onto the ship. The rescue chair, which is supposed to transport the crew to shore, gets stuck. The rescuers try to get the lifeboat into the water. The oars break and the boat almost capsizes. After several attempts in the ungrateful weather, they are exhausted and close to giving up. But the fisherman, Anders Thomsen, is not done. He convinces the others that the lifeboat, which has now drifted further south, can handle the difficult line. The boat returns and they haul it out by the line to the rescue chair. A crew member is sitting in the chair. He is still alive. The rescuers retrieve the man in the chair. They fix the rescue chair and recover the rest of the crew. All 8 crew members survive, but they can't stand up. They are put on carts and taken to a nearby farm to recover.
The supervisor of the rescue station, Jens Pedersen Lodberg, is decorated with the Danube Cross by King Frederik the Seventh. Fisherman Anders Thomsen is nominated to receive the Dannebrog Cross. He is given the choice between the cross or a sum of money. Anders Thomsen chooses the money and buys a sea boat.
