Kania.
In the waters below England, the Polish trawler fills its cargo with fish. The year is 1953. On their return journey to Poland, they pass the west coast of Jutland on a November day. But the weather is against them. A gale force gale takes hold and creates heavy waves. The crew of 17 men struggle to control the ship's course and end up close to the coast. The lifeguard discovers the ship and immediately reports the unsafe situation to the rescue service.
On November 30, Kania is stranded at Husby Klit. Rescuers are ready with a boat and rocket equipment. They shoot a line out to the ship. The rescuers quickly recover 13 of the 17 crew members with a rescue chair. The captain and three other crew members remain on the ship. Before long, it becomes clear that Kania cannot be detached from the sand. The rescuers bring the remaining four aboard the ship.
Kania is first released from the sand in May 1954, six months later. The excavation work attracts a lot of attention and hundreds of people turn up to watch the work. The trawler is towed to Aalborg for repairs.
The lifeboat that the rescue service brought with them for the recovery of Kania's crew can be seen today at Fiskeriets Hus.
