Exhibition: 'Flyers in the night'

The exhibition "Flyers in the Night" gives you the opportunity to get up close to the story of how the Second World War was also fought over West Jutland.

Like a roar in the night, the big Lancaster is suddenly overhead, the sound is deafening, and as the plane tries to avoid the German night fighters, you stand petrified on the ground, watching the battle being fought above you. In many ways, World War II was the war that never came to Denmark. But the Allied planes that crashed in and around Ringkøbing Fjord are the exception...

19 planes in the night

A total of 19 Allied aircraft crashed around Ringkøbing Fjord during the Second World War. The focal point of the exhibition is the large dummy of an Avro Lancaster. The exhibition tells the story in sound, film, original objects and large format images.

Two sides of the same coin

There are two sides to every war. Behind them, the bombers had left German cities in an inferno of death and destruction. No civilian lives were spared and hundreds of thousands of Germans perished in the Allied bombing rains. The victor writes the history, but 'Airmen in the Night' gives a more nuanced insight into the war that claimed lives on both sides.

Although most of the war was fought over the heads of the West Jutlanders, they themselves were sometimes targeted. A section of the exhibition shows pictures and films about the West Jutland targets.
