Provstgaards Jagthus
Provstgaard's House was built in 1922 by the brothers Niels Provstgaard and Søren Kristian Jensen. It was built on Ternholm, which means the islet where the terns breed or stay, so there was probably a big showdown with the tern colony when the brothers began construction. When the house was built, Ternholm was an islet in the middle of the Skjern Å delta, close to the old road through the delta.
The brothers in Provstgaards Jagthus
The two brothers, Søren Kristian and Niels, made a living from fishing and hunting, they caught otters, among other things, something that could make a significant contribution to their income. The brothers were in many ways pioneers in hunting and fishing, from the scissors they used to catch otters, the motorboat they were some of the first to get at Ringkøbing Fjord, which optimized their fishing, to the telephone connection they were some of the first in the Skjern area to establish, so they could find out about the prices of skins and make trade agreements at home and abroad.
The birds by the fjord and the river - 'the nice living room'.
Throughout his life, Niels Provstgaard was very interested in birds and when he had a free moment, he stuffed birds, among other things, and gradually built up a large and beautiful collection that best shows the bird life at Skjern Å at the beginning of the 20th century. In 1926, Søren Kristian got married and for the same reason, the two brothers chose to expand the house to make room for the new family. Søren Kristian and his wife Johanne had a total of four children while they lived in Provstgaards Jagthus. When the brothers were still building, they also built "the nice living room", an annex that was used to store Niels Provstgaard's extensive bird collection, which was displayed in cabinets Niels had built himself.
