Is ULF a copy?
Referring to a newly built wooden boat as a "replica" is a bit misleading. A fiberglass boat cast in a mold can be a replica. But a wooden boat is a different matter.
During the survey of the ULF in 1987, 339 measuring points were recorded. These points were converted into a line drawing at a scale of 1:15, where everything was adjusted and aligned by eye using a drafting stick/bendable ruler. When all the planes of the line drawing matched, the measuring points were converted into a "rejection table" with a total of 189 measurements.
All these targets had to be used to produce full-scale ULF construction templates, and in this work, again, the eye of a drawbar is the decisive factor. The targets have therefore not been definitive - they have been indicative.
