Rocket house

Follow in the footsteps of the rascals

On the tour around Bundsbæk Nature Park, you'll also walk in the footsteps of the rakkers - on the rakker trail. The rakkers had various tasks, such as helping the executioner, emptying the outhouse and removing dead animals. Because of these tasks, society looked down on the rakkers, they were considered dishonest, unclean and disgusting! Being a rake went from being an occupation to an identity - something you were, something the whole family was. The Rakkers were ostracized and therefore created a parallel society where they had their own rules, lifestyle and language. Rakkerstien takes you through the area where the last Rakkers in West Jutland lived until 1932 and down to Rakkerhuset. Rakkerhuset is a reconstruction built right where the original Rakkerhus stood. For many years, the rakkers received their poor relief from the miller at Bundsbæk.
