Tour to the lock in Hvide Sande
February 11 at 13:00 - February 11 at 14:30
Please note that this lock tour is held with a Danish-speaking guide.
Fiskeriets Hus and Ringkøbing Fjord Museums take you on a tour through the history of Hvide Sande - and you get access to the lock, which is normally closed! We'll also visit other exciting places that have shaped Denmark's youngest town, Hvide Sande.
With the opening of the lock, a rescue station was established
The lock in Hvide Sande opened in 1931, and it was soon realized that it was no longer necessary to launch the rescue boat from the beach. Consequently, the Hvide Sande Rescue Station opened in 1933 and remains in operation to this day. Learn how the nature of rescue operations has changed over time in step with the town’s development. Today, swimmers, recreational sailors, and windsurfers flock to the area where the rescue station was once used to assist stranded merchant ships—the station’s original raison d’être.
Meeting place: Fiskeriets Hus, Nørregade 2b, 6960 Hvide Sande
Price: Adults: 110 DKK. Children (ages 3–17): 50 DKK
