Lecture - Ukraine and Russia
November 20, 2024 at 19:30 - November 20, 2024 at 21:00
Join us for an exciting lecture with Associate Professor Jørn Buch who, based on the current situation in the war between Ukraine and Russia, will look at the extent to which there have been historical relations between the two countries.
With Russia's invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, Putin wanted to demonstrate that, in his view, Ukraine is a historical and inseparable part of Russia.
During the lecture, Jørn Buch will also explain how Putin's war against Ukraine has destroyed the painstakingly built rules-based world order that was established after World War II.
It will also highlight that Russia actually emerged as part of the Orthodox Kiev Empire from the Middle Ages, but that only with 19th century nationalism did it become possible to speak of an independent Ukrainian identity - which led to the creation of the first independent Ukrainian state after World War I.
