Get up close to a mill!
When you visit the beach in Hvide Sande, you can't help but notice the three large wind turbines standing there. Each turbine is 150 meters high - which is about the same as 28 giraffes or 790 liters of milk standing on top of each other. It's hard to imagine, right?

Are the turbines not producing power even though it's windy?
In West Jutland - and in Denmark in general - we want as much CO2 neutral power as possible. That's why we really want to use power that comes from wind turbines. This means that the wind turbines are produced so that even with a light breeze they can produce enough power for peak periods.
However, it also means that the wind turbines overproduce power when there is strong wind and low power consumption.
The excess power is sent to other parts of the country where not enough power can be produced or to northern Germany. Sometimes, however, too much is produced and the wind turbines are sometimes stopped. However, work is underway to find other ways to utilize all the power that is produced so that the turbines don't have to be shut down so often.
