Pallas.
The barque from Norway sails through the North Sea in ballast. It is December 1880. The ship has just discharged its cargo in London and is now on its return journey to Oslo. The crew of 14 men feel a strong storm gathering. The storm's powerful gusts take a sail with it.
Pallas runs aground on December 11th south of Gammel Bjerregård. The ship is 100 meters from land. The rescuers fire a rocket line over the ship. The crew is recovered with the rescue chair. The ship is wrecked shortly after the crew is brought to safety.
The wrecked ship isn't worth much to the crew. When they don't take it home, it can end up as a dead ship, abandoned by its crew. But Pallas doesn't have time to drift forgotten at sea. Holmsland Klit søndre bjergelaug buys the shipwreck. For DKK 1,950, they work for the next while to collect all the material they can from the wreck. They dry and preserve the sails and ropes so that they can be sold again at auction.
