PICK UP SEA WATERFALLS!

Marine debris is a term for all man-made waste that ends up in the ocean and then washes up on the beach. It can be fishing gear, plastic bags, oil cans, plastic bottles, rubber gloves and much more.

Make it a habit to always have a bag with you when you go on nature expeditions on your own and go for a walk by the beach. Pick up any sea debris you come across. Your efforts count, whether you pick up a lot or a little debris!

If you go for a walk on one of the beaches along the west coast of Jutland, you will be able to leave your collected marine litter in a beach box on the beach. The municipalities along the coast and the organization 'Keep Denmark Clean' are behind the beach boxes, which are made from recycled Euro pallets - and it's a success!

In 2023, the beach bins were used to deposit 70% of all the collected marine litter on the beaches of the west coast of Jutland - that's a whopping 253 tons!

Become a Marine Environmental Guardian! - and be part of something bigger

You can also become a volunteer Marine Guardian and make a difference alongside 30,000 others.

Marine Stewards are private individuals who have agreed to look after our shared marine environment - on the beach, at the harbor or at sea. A Marine Guardian always has a bag at hand when they are out on the beach and picks up any litter they come across.

In 2023, Marine Environmental Monitors collected 7 tons of marine litter on the beaches of Hvide Sande - and they collect 600 tons of marine litter every year throughout Denmark.

JOIN US ON A BEACH CLEANUP

If you would like to participate in a social event where several of you go to the beach together and collect marine debris, there are several operators along the west coast of Jutland that organize joint beach cleans.

On the beaches at Hvide Sande, every week during the high season, you can join the people behind OMHU on beach cleanings, which include information about Hvide Sande, the nature of the North Sea, and how marine plastic can be recycled.

The tours are 2-3 kilometers on uneven terrain and dogs are welcome.

You can find more information about OMHU and their beach cleanings here
